Just over 1.83 m of artificial magnolia foliage on a bendable stem, colored in the browns of late autumn. Wind it along a banister, a mantel shelf or the frame of a front door. It weighs little enough to hold with tape, wire or a couple of small hooks.
Cut foliage looks the part for a long weekend and then spends six weeks shedding on the floor. This holds its color from the first cold snap to the end of the season, and asks for a dusting at most. The bendable stem is why the same length works on a mantel this year and up a stair rail the next.
Ten minutes to hang, and then it is done until December.
Wrap it around a rail rather than laying it flat, and twist individual stems outward so the leaves face different ways. Across a mantel, let a little fall at each end so it does not look pinned. Brush it off with a dry cloth before it goes back in the box.
Get it up before the first cold week.
