A valve at the top of the tube shuts when a wave rolls over it, so water stays out of the airway. The tube itself is wide, which keeps the effort of breathing close to what it feels like on land. One curved lens spans the whole face for a 180 degree view rather than the narrow window a traditional mask gives you.

Holding a mouthpiece for an hour means an hour of clenched jaw, plus the regular business of blowing water back out of the tube. Breathing through the nose removes both. On the surface, which is where most snorkeling actually happens, it is simply a calmer way to look down.
An hour in the water that ends with wrinkled fingers and nothing else.

Sweep every strand of hair out from under the skirt before you tighten anything, because one hair is enough to break the seal. Snug the lower straps first and work upward, then test the seal standing in the shallows before you swim out. Rinse with fresh water afterward and dry it in the shade so the silicone stays soft.

Put it in the beach bag and get in the water.
