The base is shaped and finished by hand, so the glaze and the pattern shift a little from piece to piece. A glass chimney sits on top and keeps the flame steady when a door opens. It runs on lamp oil, paraffin oil, or kerosene, none of which is included.

A wick turned low reads as a candle; turned up it lights a whole dinner table. The ceramic keeps the heat where it belongs and the alloy fittings hold the wick square. Two glass silhouettes are available, both 18 cm tall.
It reads as an object first and a light source second.

Keep the lamp on a level, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, paper, pets, and children. Never move or refill it while lit; let it cool fully, wipe up any spilled fuel, and only then light it again. Use it in a ventilated room, and treat it as decorative lighting rather than a work light.

Light one and let the room settle around it.
